Last week, we discussed generating emotional responses with visual displays; this week, we will explore achieving similar effects through holiday merchandising.
Strategic product placement, also known as merchandising, is crucial for evoking emotion in your customers. You should merchandise products together to inspire your customers on how they can pair items to create the ultimate gift. Shoppers are seeking ready-made solutions, so this positions your brand as helpful, which is highly valued during the busy shopping season.
During the holiday season, your merchandising strategy should be strategic and distinct from your year-round approach. You should create meaningful sections that will assist your customers when shopping, inspiring them to make multiple purchases while in-store and encouraging them to explore the store for longer. If you're unsure how to adapt your merchandising to the holiday season, we've got you covered.
Here are some sections that we always create during the holiday season, and we recommend that you do the same:
Multiple gifting areas that showcase different gifting ideas for multiple types of shoppers
Grab-n-go areas near your cash desk, including smaller beauty products, accessories, and anything easy to add on (think Sephora checkout line)
Holiday outfit section including all of your sequin and fancier clothing.
Cozy/casual section including lounge sets, hot coco kits, games etc.
An accessory section that should show a wide variety of scarves, toques, gloves, etc.
Within each of these sections, you will need to use the ultimate holiday merchandising strategy, which is cross-merchandising. This involves merchandising products that can easily be paired together to create the perfect gift or outfit, taking the guesswork out.
